Blogger vs WordPress : Which is better?

For every beginner who wants to start a blog will have a question what platform should I choose for blogging.

We have plenty of options to choose from.

  • WordPress
  • Blogger
  • Tumblr
  • Medium

These are the most popular blogging platforms to choose.

The most popular question among beginners is whether to choose Blogger or WordPress.

So which one is better Blogger or WordPress?

Many users like to start with blogger platform has it is easy to use and less technical knowledge is required to start a blog and many of them suggest WordPress for its power and features.

The usual answer you get for this is to try a wordpress.com  for a couple of months and then shift to self-hosted WordPress blog when you are capable of managing it.

The free alternative for WordPress is Blogger.com. I suggest not to use it for a long time.

I started with a Blogger.com blog and shifted to WordPress.org this is my personal experience.

In this article, I will share the comparison of Blogger and WordPress and which is the better for some situations and Why?

Why Blogger?

Blogger (aka Blogspot) is an easy and useful tool to start a blog and share your thoughts with the world. Blogspot is a simple platform where you don’t need any technical knowledge on how to do and what to do. When you are not blogging for money, Blogspot is a very useful platform for beginners.

Blogspot is a free blogging platform powered by Google. There are some limitations for the blogger in terms of customization and SEO benefits. You don’t need to invest to get a Blogger it costs you almost nothing. When you can’t invest Blogger is a perfect choice for you.

Since Google owns Blogger there lot of Google services built-in like Google Analytics, Adwords, and Adsense. Which makes it extremely useful for novice bloggers. Blogger is extremely reliable, upgrades are seamless and the sites are rarely down for maintenance or other issues. It is very easy to connect your blogger to Google Analytics and Adsense which most of the user love.

Are you blogging for money or building authority or a brand, Blogger is not the ideal option for you. Blogger has limited control over visibility in search engines and at sometimes you feel the lack of additional features in blogger. The most important of all is the ownership of the site. Blogger helps you publish your stuff on to the web, but here is the catch Google can shut down blogger has it runs the service or can shut down the access to your blog at any time.

Why WordPress?

WordPress was created to give blogger more control over their blog with all the advanced features. WordPress was created in PHP and MYSQL and originally called b2/cafelog.

The advantages of having a WordPress self-hosted blog is the user can have more control over the design and you can have a complete control your site. Technically you can edit anything on the site from fonts to animations anything.

You can host your own files, you can use them for any purpose either personally or professionally. In contrast to free blogger domain( techgeekbytes.blogspot.com ), we have to use (techgeekbytes.com) has your blog domain which looks more professional than a blogger site.

WordPress allows you to add plugins for SEO and for customizing the theme to make the site look better. This helps in making your blog more SEO friendly and user-friendly. With WordPress, you can always use the latest SEO techniques in the market.

To host a WordPress blog you need to get a server where you can host your blog. BlueHost is the official hosting partner for wordpress.org. Bluehost gives you a free domain with their hosting packages. If you want to dive straight in and start your blog, then I always recommend that you use Bluehost. With an extremely easy WordPress installation process.

Get your hosting now and get a free domain.

Conclusion:

If you want to start a blog just to write your thoughts and not make any money from it blogger is very useful with zero investment to be made by the user. Blogger has its own limitations where the features are very little and SEO benefit is very low.

If you are blogging to make money, build an authority or trying to build a brand I recommend you WordPress.org self-hosted blog. This helps you make your blog more user-friendly and SEO friendly. WordPress has a huge community to help you out if you are stuck at any point.

All the best!
